Died on the water couldn't get it started again. Was with friends so towed in no troubles.

Got home on the muffs tried starting wouldn't start. Checked fuel pump by unhooking green wire from alternator and hooking to battery +. Fuel pump ran.

Started and ran after that. Fuel pump lost prime?

Going to get some fittings to check fuel pressure and probably a new filter (which is brand new only a few hours but cheap anyway).

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

and probably a new filter

Ayuh,....... Don't just toss the ole one,.......

Examine it's Contents for anything but clean fresh gasoline, 1st,......

Ole fuel filters are extremely important diagnostic tools,.....

I use gallon zip-lock freezer bags to change 'em,......
Saves on spills, 'n after just flip it over to clearly see the contents,.....

Drained the fuel filter into gallon ziploc as suggested and looks good no water or other gunk...

I’m thinking this is a carb issue.

The symptoms are:
- after running for a while engine nice and warm
- sit for a while, say for a swim
- restart then accelerate to plane speed
- engine dies
- sometimes starts right away, sometimes harder to start, this time no start
- fuel bowl runs empty as after manually running fuel pump, restarts easy

It seems like the float or needle valve is effected by heat soak after running then sitting, and doesn’t allow the fuel bowl to refill fast enough to keep up with demand...

Once the motor starts, power for the pump comes from the alternator. During the crank sequence the pump gets its 12V from the start circuit. You say that when you provided the 12V by hooking the pump directly to the battery that the pump runs and the boat starts fine. Think you have an issue with your pump relay?
