dies after 10 min

I have a 1960 10hp Johnson Seahorse, starts on the first pull with choke everytime. But after 10 min or so of running it dies. Upon pulling the flywheel i noticed that what i beleive to be the two coils, are cracked and split. The ends that are closest to the flywheel are rusted and oozing something. Is this my problem are these coils geting hot?

allan55,<br />When older coils develop cracks, it's time for new coils. Parts are available from OMC dealers or from Napa auto (marine catalog). Replacement points and condensers are cheap as well.<br />Chances are you want to change the water pump impeller unless you know the last time it was replaced. If all this is new to you, order a service manual for your motor and follow the destructions for these parts replacement.
