dies at advanced throttle

4.3l, twobarrel holley, starts great idles great, gets up on plane but if throttle is advanced higher motor dies. Then will start again at idle. carb removed and checked for debris, but looks great. new fuel/water filter and fresh gas. boat sat for 5 years. tank had 1 lire of gas in it witch was removed. tank seemed clead enough. Seems like a fuel delivery issue, any ideas.

what type of fuel tank do you have? I had similar problem I replaced the anti-siphon valve and removed the fuel pick up tube from the tank it spins out and at the end of the tube the screen was clogged a little it helped my problem.. can you run it on a sep tank.

It is a plastic tank, 1990 chriscraft, not sure about taking the pickup tube out but could use a separate tank, any ather suggestions, the coil getting hot doesn't seem logical as the engine will start imediatly after it fails.

anti siphon removed from system. still dies. possibly a cooling problem? temp gage is in the green. motor tight after last stoppage turned over half hour later has a lumpy idle now. Damage control?

check oil any water? can you do compression test? ..hows the rest of the electrical, plugs wires , look at plugs do any look like they were steamed? really it could be alot of things pick one thing test then move on,,, what do you mean motor tight after last stoppage meaning hard to turn over

yes starter wouldnt turn engine over for about half an hour, very hard to turn crank with wrench almost seemed like a mild siezure. checked thermostat, it works in a cup of hot water.
