Anyone out there have experience with or know of information sources for Diesels that would be suitable as a powerplant for a 24 ft Deep-V?

My first thoughts are that it should be a minimum of 200 hp, and a max. weight pkg. of approx. 11-1200 lbs...

Would like to hear about any of: A- Inboard, B- I/O, or C- Outboard.

Thanx, Obiwan Jeeper

Re: Diesel Conversion Possibilities

Question? Did you get on the list for the free subscription to Trailer Boats magazine?.. If not pick up the Feburary issue... It has some great information on Diesels for I/O's and some of it would apply to Inboards as well...

It looks like Mercruiser has teamed up with Cummins and they should be a strong player in the market, along with Volvo and Yanmar... All of these companies offer Diesels that would be suitable for your application, though they might be a little heavier than 1100-1200 Lbs., but not much...

One thing to consider is the up front cost of the diesel engines when compaired to gas engines... While it's true that diesels have better fuel economy and longer life expectancy, The question you should ask yourself is "Will you be using the boat enough to offset the initial cost of the Diesel engine"...

If you'er not planing on putting several hundred hours on an engine in a single season, then you may be better off with a gas engine as actual fuel savings may not make up for the initial cost...

Bring lots of cash cause Diesels ain't cheap...$$,$$$.$$

www.mastry.com
