Re: diesel trucks

My old Ford 7.3 Turbo, seems to get around 15 on the road, but that is with a 2200 pound camper on it, I would imagine, that without a load, I might, just might be able to get 18 out of it, but I sure would not trade it for the power I got is amazing! Now as to total miles, I currently have 114K, and I know of several here in the valley, that have over 300K on them and I know of two trucks that are approaching 1 million miles on them.

Re: diesel trucks

you mean miles total or miles per gallon?

if you are talking miles total I have a 2000 7.3L Power Stroke with over 330,000 miles that is still to this day faster then my 2006 5.9L Cummins with 255,000 miles

Total miles? I have no idea, I maintain them both and drive them both like I stole them, no reason to be easy on them when they do just fine being driven hard, to be honest the one guy I know of that hates his diesel has a 2002 7.3L powerstroke with 86,000 miles(bought it brand new), I keep telling him he is not driving it enough, and if he ever wants to sell it I want to be the first to know!!

If you are talking MPG then I think it varies on how you drive it, but both of my trucks get between 15 and 20 MPG, towing can be lower somewhat.

I know you don't want to get into a peeing contest, I completely understand, Old Ford and Newer Dodge have been very good to me though.

Re: diesel trucks

I've got around 198K on my 02 Powerstroke. My brother had an early 90s non turbo 7.3 IDI with 320K on it that he sold it.

The only thing I don't like about my truck is that I have to put a new set of tires on every 100K miles. :D

Re: diesel trucks

My 2003 F250 7.3 has 110K miles, and I had a $75 80 hp econo flash put on the ECU.

When new, it'd barely chirp a tire. Now, it'll squall the tires from a start. I can stomp the throttle @ 20 mph and see two black streaks on the road behind me. Now, it'll run from 60-80 mph in 4 seconds flat--big passing gear. And over the highway mileage is 20 MPG @ 70 mph--up from 18 MPG when new.

DieselStop.com has everything about diesels you ever wanted to know. There's a Duramax and Cummins website just like it. It's nothing uncommon to see 350K-400K engines in use. Most have had transmissions replaced, however.

Re: diesel trucks

Oh, I misread your question. I have about 10K miles on my Duramax, My friend has about 210,000 on his RAM Diesel. Diesel lasts longer than gas. With that said other components last the same amount of time.

Re: diesel trucks

Yeah the weak point of every Diesel is the transmissions, doesn't matter what make the Tranny just doesn't hold up, in my two Diesels I have had five tranny's, 3 in the Ford but lets face it you work the motor like I did something wasn't going to last, and two in the Dodge, probably looking at number 3 in the Dodge before long.
