Hey Guys, so I own the 74' 150hp inline 6, and ive been offered a 140 inline 6 (not sure of the age but apparently its around the same era!!) but i was wondering what similarities there are between the two? effectively what parts would be interchangeable? Carbs/Gearbox/Power Pack etc

I guess in a nutshell is it worth buying for spares or not? He only wants $400 NZD which is reasonable and its apparently in good working cond, but yea i thought i should see what / if anything is reusable.

Thanks in advance :)

Cheers,

Re: Difference Between 74' 150hp / 140hp Inline 6

There were two 140s. the 1972 model was a different engine(non power ported pistons and block). The I6 150(power ported) was from 1973 - 1977. The 1978 140hp model was the same engine as the 1977 150. That year Merc introduced the 150 V6 and really didn't want/need another completely different 150 to compete with. The 1979 and 1980 models might have had some minor differences. In 1978 they still used the Distributor Ignition, in 79 it changed to ADI. The gearboxes will look different post 78 but will interchange and the gear ratios are all 2:1.

What's the serial #?
