difference between rectifier part #

why would rectifier part #78614 be around $70, and the 816770 be around $35? The only diffence noted is that the first one is for serial # 4112634 and below, the 816770 is for serial #4112635 and up. Is there that much difference in these two rectifiers? these are both for 6 cyl. inlines. mine has a serial number of 3948377, which makes it a '74. would the lower priced one work for me?

78614A1 is the listed part for your engine. However, the 816770 will work. The difference is in physical size, the newer one is smaller, that's all.<br /><br />Chris...............
