Different battery types connected by solenoid?

I need new batteries for my boat. I have 2 identical group 24 marine kirkland batteries right now. One is dedicated for starting and the other runs all the accessories, they are connected by a solenoid, which I believe only connects them once the engine is running. My question is, can i have 2 different kinds of batteries, a true starting battery and a true deep cycle for house? Is that ok even though they 'connect' through the solenoid for charging when the engine is on?
Thanks

OK, good. When is it NOT ok to connect 2 different batteries? when they are directly connected in parallel or series?

Your aren't going to connect them in series because that makes 24 volts. Then you will be replacing most of your electronics.

Connect the new batteries exactly as they are now.

The difference between a starting battery and a deep cycle is in the construction to provide longer drain times with deep cycle batteries and starter current surges in starting batteries.
