I have a 1977 351 Ford complete stern drive model number 990240G (235 HP) I just aquired a 1978 240 HP model 990250D 351 Ford complete stern drive. Anyone know how interchangeable the outdrives and intermediate housings are? Looking on the internet part shops the intermediate housings are different part numbers for example. Are they interchangeable.
Are the fuel systems 240 Rochester and 235 Holly carbs interchangeable Distributors ect. ect.??

Thanks

Re: Different OMC models

OMC outdrive models changed from 77 to 78. I'm not sure how drastic the change was but its listed as separate generations.. The engines will be interchangeable. Just swap out everything past the flywheel (bell housings + intermediate + oudrive + driveshaft) and you are good to go. All the accessories on the engine will be interchangeable. I'd keep like with like though until you run into problems that require swapping.

A '77 drive is electric shift, the '78 is hydro-mechanical shift, upper gearcase is mostly same, but lowers totally different
