I have a 1995 25h.p. Rude electric start that starts and runs fine first thing when its cold.I run across the lake and kill it and let it sit for awhile and it is very difficult to restart. It wants to start but about the time it fires off it dies or the starter "kicks out".I worked on it about two months ago and thought I fixed it when I found a blown head gasket but I still have the problem...sorry for long post....thanks..

It sounds like it's turning over fine just not firing up, is that correct? Do you finally get it started or do you have to let it cool completely? To me it sounds like fuel starvation or heat induced ignition breakdown. It's not hard to test for each. Spray some gas in the carb next time. Does that get it going?

I dont believe it's getting hot,it sits sometimes for an hour or so..... and yes it turns over just fine.It will start after I keep trying for some time about the time the battery is about "dead".I do also think it could be fuel related but what would cause it to be starving for fuel?I'm not ruling out the ignition either what could cause this problem???Thanks.....

A vacuum lock in the fuel line can cause fuel starvation. Do you have a vent in the fuel tank cap? Does the primer bulb go flat? You need to do some diagnostics to find out what it needs. There's and Engine FAQ titled Engine won't start that will walk you through the basics.

Are you using the same start up procedure when the engine is warm? ie, are you using the choke? If so, you may be flooding the engine.

Just a thought.

Good luck
Steve
