Digital cable TV

I have Comcast digital/HD cable service on my main TV & use the converter box they supplied with the service. Wife wants to add a TV in the basement (after I get it finished) that will get all the digital channels but not HD - we just have an older Sony 27" tube to put down there.

She wants to avoid the monthly charge from Comcast for the second converter box & was poking around on e-bay to buy a used one (there are some with same model# as the one we have on there). Does anybody know if those are all compatible or if there will be issues with configuration, etc?

you should not need a second box for the basic service



On are local cable you do not need a box for the basic channels or the Basic HD Channels if you TV has and HD Tuner


But they allways do things like move the speed channel so it requires a box to watch

And you won't get the digital tier most likely. But you should be able to pick up channels 1-99 or something like that.

The TV is "cable ready" but it only gets up to analog ch 120 since it is older. She wants to get the higher digital channels, so I'm pretty sure we need another converter box.

Go to Radio Shack and look at their wireless signal sender. I don't remember what it is called, but it takes the output of whatever box to the main TV and transmits it to Ch 3 on the secondary TV as well as feeding the main TV.

Mine picks the signal from the satellite receiver off before it goes into my big Sony HD and sends a copy of it to the analog set in my bedroom.

I can then put the grandbuddies in the theater room watching DVDs, playing games or watching local channels off the antenna and I can kick back in the bedroom and watch something off the satellite.

Even for an elderly passage of gas that lives alone it is a very handy thing. I think it costs about $100 these days.

The big conflict is...I wanna watch golf on the HD (is there any other way?) & she invariably wants to watch something that's on another digital channel or the Comcast "on demand" so I think we're stuck with the second Comcast box.

Big question is the compatibility of a unit purchased used or aftermarket to the Comcast digital signal (to avoid their kinda high rental fee). Hopefully, somebody else has had to do this?

No chance an aftermarket Cable box will do what you want at this time.

Get the comcast box.

Live with non-digital.

What is it you're trying to say here? Do you go into the other room to pass gas?

no it will not work you have to get the box from comcast those boxes cost them around 600 to a 1000 bucks each at that price do you still think your rental price is high

You don't need a second box, you will not get the HD or digital channels.
