Digital depth finder not working!?

I have a 2007 Stingray 185LX, 3.0 Penta. It has a Faria digital depth finder in it, and the transducer is stuck down on the stbd floor of the engine compartment. It came from the factory like this.

So about the second season of boating, it started throwing out crazy numbers in places where I knew the depth, and knew it was incorrect. And it jumps all over the place, many times displaying "0.0" in deep channels.

I inspected the back side of the gauge and also looked over the connection on the transducer. Anybody know what's the most common part to go out on these? The weakest link? I'd like to get it up and running again, but not fond of buying and installing a complete system. Any way to test the transducer?

Thanks in advance.

How loud does the transducer "click?" And how often? Once every second or two I'm guessing? I don't hear mine clicking at all...

Impatient aren't you. 30 minutes and no response so you pull the "shame" card. However, regarding your question -- I've owned lots of locators and "none" of the transducers clicked loud enough to hear. However you can put your hand on the "business" end and feel it pulse. To give you a rough idea of the frequency, 75 Hz (cycles) is pretty slow (about 1.1/second. 200 Hz is 3+/second.

The "shame" card? Actually, the only post within 30 minutes was me adding more questions as I was working on the boat... not "shaming" anybody. The bump to the top came after 2 days.

Thanks for your input though.

Any other tests to see if the transducer is working properly? A lot of these other folks are saying that you should be able to hear it clicking, but mine's not making any noise.
