Digital Speedometer not working yam 115 4

The digital speedo on our 2001 115 yamaha 4 stroke quit working a while back is there a hole that gets stopped up or something and how do you clean it out?

the speedo pickup is on the front of the lower unit just above the nose of the "bullet"(bulge containing propshaft)...blow it out with air compressor or strong water stream
