Re: Dihydrogen Monoxide

Some of the known perils of Dihydrogen Monoxide are:

* Death due to accidental inhalation of DHMO, even in small quantities.

* Found in biopsies of pre-cancerous tumors and lesions.

* Prolonged exposure to solid DHMO causes severe tissue damage.

* Excessive ingestion produces a number of unpleasant though not typically life-threatening side-effects.

* Gaseous DHMO can cause severe burns.

"Found in the production of beer by all the major beer distributors " :^

Scarey RF. I can't ever remember seeing on any labels, and I read every label on the food we eat. I wonder is it would read DHMO or if its disguised under another name.

I couldn't find that information in the article.

The logo of DHMo_Org, primary current residence of the dihydrogen monoxide hoaxDihydrogen monoxide (DHMO) is the somewhat obscure chemical name for water, used in hoaxes to illustrate how the ignorance of science and one-sided analysis can lead to misplaced fears.

The hoax involves listing strictly negative effects of water, such as erosion or death by drowning, attributing them to "dihydrogen monoxide", and then asking individuals to help control the seemingly dangerous substance. It was apparently created by Eric Lechner and Lars Norpchen in 1990, revised by Craig Jackson in 1994, and was brought to widespread public attention in 1997, when Nathan Zohner, a 14-year-old student, gathered petitions to ban "DHMO" as the basis of his science project, titled "How Gullible Are We?".

Sounds a little like:

Global Warming
Second-hand smoke
Destruction of the Ozone Layer
Nuclear Winter
DDT
And the latest: Algae blooms

Just for clarification my stingy friend. I never said, nor do I believe, that smoking doesn't cause cancer. I do, however, believe very strongly that the risk of second hand smoke has been grossly exaggerated. The way our kids are taught, they'll die if they see someone smoke, let alone actually smoke. And. for clarification, I don't smoke (I'll admit to maybe 2 cigars a year . . . ), I hate the smell on my clothes, and I hate being in the close proximity of smokers. But I am not angry at them for trying to kill me . . .

Now as far as Dihydrogen Monoxide is concerned, that there is a real risk. Just look at Katrina.

QC...this is off course a little....but my belief is...there is such an industry built around "anti-smoking" that the patient and the problem is no longer important.....the importance now lies in a lot of people in very well paid positions, running the anti-smoking lobby, protecting their butts to keep their positions...and that is the No1 aim of such Councils. Does that make sence?
