I bought this boat as a project and previous owner had a questionable job done to it. Im trying to straiten out the issues I have in the shifting so basically I'm taking off both cables and reinstalling and adjusting both as the mechanic had them upside down. I am trting to adjust the cable going back to the outdrive. You are suppose to have a 6 inch dimention there but I can not get it that low and the brass barrel has a pin thru it so I can't adjust.only thing I can come up with is its in a different gear other than forward. Also when checking for freedom of motion in the cable with it disconnected should you be able pull and push with your hand? Mine is not moving thx

The cables would be swapped if the drive is counter clockwise rotation

What drive?

Tx, a 98 and up Alpha Gen 2

Being a Gen 2 the cables should not have been swapped unless the one doing the work didn't know any better. Hope they didn't install a CC drive, but if that is what happened it can still work

If it is a CC drive there is a different shift plate called out in the install manual

With the cable not moving, I would remove the drive and start from scratch

With a reverse rotation mercruiser drive the cables are reversed in the control box not at the drive end

That's what I was thinking. Replace cable. Now next question. You need the outdrive to be in forward gear for everything to line up to take off. I'm currently in neutral how do I get this in forward if the cable is stuck and will not move. Thx

I would drop the lower half, this way no chance of damaging the shift foot
