Dimension measurement of the MerCruiser 5.7 thermostat housing?

My boat does not have the factory style MerCruiser housing. I have been trying to find the dimensions of the factory style housing or an affordable housing. I'd hate to purchase a $200 housing only to discover it won't clear for my application I am working on. I need to know the height from the base where it mounts on the intake to the top of the housing.

Thank you for any help

Cheers

the newest SS one is the shortest one. What kind of application are you trying to do?

I have a Weiand 177 Blower setup I want to install on the 350 motor. It only has 2" of clearance between the intake and the snout.

So, the application is a 350 MerCruiser in a 21 foot Hallett. I have alot of parts still to go, but I am struggling with how to deal with the water neck. I didn't realize the housing I have wasn't "normal" till just the other day. But you can see in the photos the clearance is very tight. It's 2".

You get a blower T-stat offset casting.

Since the blower manifold is aluminum, you really should get a heat exchanger for the motor.

Thank you for the link, I do have the offset casting, interesting thing, it doesn't clear? I called and asked them at Weiand about it, they said it won't clear without the gasket, which I had on? That's a very tight tolerance. It does work great on the BBC manifold that I also have.

Actually the combination of the offset casting, if I can get it to work and the factory housing might work also it the MerCruiser is more the 2". Hadn't thought of that.

The motor already has an aluminum edelbrock manifold on it painted black? I assumed that was part of the MerCruiser package?

if its a mercruiser manifold, it would have came with a dual alloy marine manifold as aluminum doesnt like non-glycol. its ok in fresh water, however any high morrow or brackish and it will corrode. in salt, you can watch it dissappear.

Merc doesnt use an off-the shelf edelbrock manifold for corrosion reasons. neither does volvo penta, PCM, Ilmore, Indmar

Well, I guess I need to take a closer look at my entire motor setup when I get home eh? I knew the through hull exhaust manifolds weren't stock, but I thought all the rest was stock MerCruiser stuff. I know it has an Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold on it now and had a Rochester carb, which started seeping fuel really bad through the throttle shaft, so I replaced it with one of the marine edelbrock 600 carbs I happened to have two of. To me it always sounded like it has a more than stock 350 cam in it, but figured that was also a MerCruiser setup.

Thanks for all the help
