Re: Dip stick in chevy

You must have the 4.3 litre Chevy. It's a real pain in the rear trying to get that puppy down in there. The dipstick seems too stiff to make all the curves. I just keep twisting a little 'till I get it back in. Seems like it would be easy stuffing smoke up an elephants butt with a broom handle!!!

Mike

My fault, I was in a hurry and forgot the key word. I was wondering if there was any trick to installing a dip stick tube in a block. Thanks for the replies, maybe this time it makes a little more sense. I kinda felt like an idiot when I realized what my post said.

First, make sure you have the correct dip stick tube...they are not all the same size & I think are actually swaged down a bit as they are seated. I would use a short length of pipe of a diameter that will fit over the end of the tube where you put the dipstick in (1/2", 3/8" ?) and use that to tap the tube in until the shoulder bottoms on the block.
