Need to replace the dipstick on my dozer, it snapped in two. Has a 3/8 tube and is 28 inches long. Have been looking around for aftermarket, speed-o cable or other.

Ideas?

Thought you were watching TV.

Did the stick itself break or the tube. ?

Summit has a mess of tubes and sticks. Lokar's must be made of gold.

Maybe try Ebay by brand of motor. Do you know of any heavy equipment salvage yards, AD? I Googled and got hits for my area and online.

Only now, I have crud to do and most of it is greasy, the wife says I'm her laundry challenge :D

The stick broke. Go figure, I was answering a question about the length of the stick on HEF and it snapped when reinstalling.

Yes, I've looked around, and can make something up. Just thought about Bondo mentioning a speed-o cable, and others have had other ideas so thought I would ask.

Its for a CAT 3204 and part number 4N0234 but thought about getting something that would be better to use

A speedo cable is nice and flexible. It can be brazed to the handle below the wavy section, if it didn't break at the handle.

Kind deeds do not go unpunished.

Ayuh,..... I'm still packing my garage, if I find that box of speedo cable, I'll gladly send you a chunk,.....
I know there's a few more feet left of it, 'n I think I might know where it is,....

Otherwise, my 1st thought is an old Alpha lower shift cable,.....
Donno if it can be brazed, but silver solder I think will stick to it,.....

Have you looked into orcheln products?

https://orschelnproducts.com/product-category/dipstick-assemblies/

its where we used to get custom dipsticks for various chassis applications for both cat and cummins motors.

they have a machined block fitting, plastic tube and a cable-like stick

otherwise the stock tube is nothing special, the stick is easily made by using a piece of speedo cable. you can crimp a section of brass tube on the cable (available at many Ace hardware stores) for the section where you stamp the hi/lo marks

Braze and silver solder, Don't know why I didn't think of it. All I was thinking was welding and its to thin for that with my machine.

Appreciate the offer to send a chunk, but I know I can find something to use, just wanting ideas

In the old days of full service gas stations I used to ask the young pump jockey-----" Do you sell longer dipsticks.---The one in my car won't reach the oil "-----Just to see the reaction.-------One blond lady smiled and called me by my name and said -----" I might have been born on a weekend , but not last weekend "----Good fun and I still use it occasionally.

Don't be hard on yourself, AD. If we didn't think for each other, sometimes no thinkin' would be done. :D

Sounds like you found your solution. I was going to suggest a piece of an electrician's fish tape soldered to your stub.
