Dirty Fuel Line

I just finished up rebuilding my carbs. The strainers in them were extremely packed with green gunk,
I removed the fuel line that goes into the fuel pump and placed it in a bucket then compressed the bulb on the line several times. I'm getting more green stuff coming out of the fuel line. I feel like the line and bulb are contaminated. How can I clear all this junk out?

You need to replace the fuel line. What you are likely seeing is the inside of the fuel line deteriorating. Go to NAPA and buy some fuel line and replace it. This is relatively common for fuel line to go bad and a pretty easy fix. The carbs will stay much cleaner with the new fuel line.:)

Re: Dirty Fuel Line

Do you mean the fuel line with the bulb on it or the fuel lines from the fuel pump?
Thanks

It would be best to replace all fuel lines at once. If the line with the bulb is that bad then it is very likely that the rest of the fuel lines are in the same condition.

Re: Dirty Fuel Line

I took it out for a test run last Sunday. It was slow to get on plane but gradually got up to speed. It took about 10 seconds. I ran out about a mile before it began to slow down. It gradually got slower and slower. The motor sounded okay but just wouldn't go. I tried compressing the fuel bulb, then choking it. Nothing helped. I checked the throttle linkage. It looks okay, the gas tank vent is open.
I found a spark plug wire fouling out on the bottom of the cover. I cant seem to get the wire off of the distributor. :D Is there some kind of trick to removing the plug wires from the distributor?
Thanks!

Re: Dirty Fuel Line

Try unscrewing them from the cap. That's how mine come off.

Re: Dirty Fuel Line

It seems to be the boot on the end that goes on the spark plug, Can I use an automotive one there?
