Dis-assembled motor value.

Hi Fellas',

I bought a 9.5 '68 Evinrude a year or so back. The PO also threw in a dis-assembled same type Johnson. I don't know if it is worth the time and effort to put back together. Either way I don't have the time, need some money and need the room. The only major thing missing is the top cover.

I would like to sell on Craigslist or something but have no idea what kind of value to place on it. Or would it be better to part it out? I have looked around but can't find anything comparable.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Try ebay. Even though it costs to list, people there tend to overbid on parts. you may make more than the running engine is worth. Find a friend or someone who knows how to list to help with with starting prices and reserves so you don't get caught selling for just shipping costs.

Re: Dis-assembled motor value.

If you look at E-Bay you often see a dozen or so ads in a row advertising parts from the same motor. I know people that have sold a $200 motor for $500 if you add up all the parts. On the other hand, look at those ads close and you'll see that most of the time only a few of the parts sell. So, if you want to get rid of it all, that's probably not a good option.

Last year I bought a working motor for $25. It came with 2 extra powerheads,a box of parts and a bag of bolts. The PO took the one apart to get the mounting bracet off and replace the one on his original motor. I was able to fix the broken part with only minor welding.

I sold one of the powerheads for $50 and with the parts I assembled a full second motor. It only took an hour to put it back together, so time isn't an issue. At any rate, I ended up with a running pair of twins.

Put it together and sell it on CL as a whole motor locally. Offer it for $50 and take $20. After all you got it free anyway.

$50-$75 disassembled if it's not seized (inside) or bolts frozen outside

Sell the individual parts on E-bay (separate listings). The parts will bring much more money than the complete engine would, running or not.
