Looking for some info, guys.

I have a service connected disability (knee @ 10%) that the government has paid me a pension for the last 13 years. Recently I found that I am going to need surgery on it, as it has deteriorated over the years. They want to scope it first, then they will make the decision as to if they are going to replace the ACL again or do a complete knee reconstruction/replacement.

My question is this...the VA and I have already agreed to the 10% disability 13 years ago, and the knee has gotten worse, can I resubmit paperwork to get the % upped, or am I locked in for life at 10%?

Re: Disabled American Veterans

Just did a C&P to my fishing partner. He is retired Army and also draws disability. He has went in several times to increase the disability. I should hear back from him this evening. So yes it can be done but I would think each case would be different. Will let you know what he has to say when I find out.

i work at the phila VA, you have to have a comp and pension hearing, where they will review all of your paper work and file and decide on any increase, don't give up even if they decline it, appeal and be persistent.

gaugeguy here is what he wrote back.

I would take my 214 and my award for disability to amvets and let them fight for more disability because it is already proved to be a service connected disability. If AMVETS will take the case it is almost a given that the increase will be approved by the VA.

i have 10% in each knee, and i have buddys that were discharged at same time as me with same percentage that have since had surgery and have had theirs increased! absolutely. you can apply to have it re-examined again. you were willing to give your life for this country, the least they can do is give you a fair chance at re-examination and care !!!

Re: Disabled American Veterans

I smashed my thumb joint up while in the Army and was put back together almost normal. When getting discharged back in 73 was told even though not bothering me to get a VA claim number. Learned from my old man, who neglected to inform the VA back in 45 , of a back injury so went for it. He tried to get more disability when back totally gone but could not because no record.
The DAV or AMVETS can definitely help. Good luck.
