Re: disappearing lake?

Yeah...we need photos of this. What a story. I'd bet a hole opened up into some caverns in limestone under the lake.

Drained it like a big toilet bowl.

I'm glad I wasn't boating there.

If a person had been in this disaster, he would have had almost no chance of survival. The trees flew downwards, under the ground," said Dmitry Zaitsev, a local Emergencies Ministry official interviewed by the channel.

Officials in Nizhegorodskaya region, on the Volga river east of Moscow, said water in the lake might have been sucked down into an underground water-course or cave system, but some villagers had more sinister explanations.

"I am thinking, well, America has finally got to us," said one old woman, as she sat on the ground outside her house.

That happened down in Louisiana a few years back when a salt mining operation punched a hole in the bottom of the lake.

Some poor guy was in his boat at the time, but managed to get out. Good thing he didn't have a Force outboard!

Jinx

Re: disappearing lake?

My dad relayed a story to me from when he was a young adult just back from WWII of a lake they were camping and skiing on for a weekend disappeared. Evidently it was on a fault-line and a small earthquake split it wide open and in the morning there was no water. A good sized lake it was too. Chief ;)

In New York State about 20 years ago a municipal worker was repairing a check dam and figured he would finish the job in the morning......drained the entire lake overnight.

Boats were sitting on mud, debris everywhere and a very embarrassed public works department.

Ummm, then wouldn't the oceans be receeding instead of rising?
