discharge water temp

how hot should the coolant water be coming out ?
My 15 horse mariner overheats pushing an 18 foot aluminum jon, if I throttle past half, seems to do fine at half or less throttle. Is this just a case of not enough motor? This is however just my emergency motor, but since the 60 horse is down for trouble shooting, been using the 15 .

this is the Johnson/Evinrude forum but the tstat should open at 140 and the water should be no hotter.. you may have a failing impeller. also you are lugging the engine. it needs to be propped correctly.
