I Have a 1965 Speedi-Four Evinrude motor, model # 75553, 75 H.P. It is stuck in reverse gear. I tore the gear box apart "somewhat". I got the prop off, took the gear case head assembly off, removed the snap ring and the retaining head plate & thrust washer off. I got far enough into it to see that the bolt and nut are loose on the shifter yoke, and the shifter yoke in turn disconnected from the shifter lever. I can see how the yoke and shifter lever go together, but................
Now my question: I do not see anywhere in my manual that shows how the shifting rod (lower rod) is connected to the yoke. How does it connect to the yoke??
It appears in my manual that there is some kind of indent on the rod. Is this indent on both side of the rod or all around the rod or just the one side??? Does this indent fit into the square looking hole in at the top of the yoke? ( I can only see the picture/diagram in the book, I do not have those parts out of the motor yet). I did not want to go any farther tearing it apart unless I can get it back together, and I don't know how it goes together right now. Thanks for any help on this!
