Any tips on whether or not to run the motor out of gas after use to drain the carb? (8 hp 4s Merc) For instance, after every time, or only when stored or not going to be used for a while? Any thoughts would be appreciated.Thanks.

That question is opening a whole can of worms around here :D

Some say run it dry, others say leave the carbs wet. Is there a right way and a wrong way? Depends who you ask ;)

Personally, Ive owned three different motors and have always left fuel in the carbs whether for a week or during winter storage of up to 7 months. Of course with longer storage periods I use fuel stabilizer. Never had a problem.

I have to agree with Moody Blue on most points, mostly the fuel stabilizer for long term storage. I personally run mine dry due to the fact that I premix mine and dont want the oil gunk built up after the gas evaporates, and when I tilt my engine up the fuel runs out of the carbs.

Simple rule here... Single carbbed engine - go for it... Multi-carbbed engine - don't....
