Has anyone heard about the Loran system finally getting taken off line? I just caught word of a message today about shutting down of the USCG Loran station in St. Paul AK next year. I'll read through it later to get the details when I can, but it sounds like it is part of the disbandment of the whole system.

Re: Discontinuation of Loran C

I see inormation about a upgrade but see nothing about shutting it down. For the past 8 years I have herd every year someone say it no longer works or this is the last year but it still working.
A lot of aircraft still use in including some military and commerical air craft.
I have 3 GPS units but still use my Loran C as my main navigation system.

I would be willing to bet there will be lots of warning before it shut down.
Some day it will probably happen. Right now it looks like their doing an upgrade and have taken some chain off line for a few minutes.
