2001 Mercury 175 EFI

I am thinking of buying subject engine and was advised that the Auto Oiler had been discontinued late last year and that the oil and gas were just mixed as normal 50/1.

How can I know that this was done properly after I receive the engine.

thanks

I would think you'd be interested in verifying this was properly done BEFORE buying the engine. Pump removed, block off plate installed, oil tank removed, associated lines blocked.

Ahmen.. You might also ask why the oil pump was removed. Was it out of fear of failure or did it fail.

Thanks for the input. I did ask why and the owner replied " in fear of failure". I am going to talk to the mechanic that did the disconnect and find out from him the exact procedure used. For my own education, what happens if the pump was left on and no block off plate was installed? I have not purchased the engine yet so I guess this is a good time to get all the info I can to make the right decision. thanks again

I fail to understand why people disconnect the Merc oil systems. White engines I can understand, but the black engine system works very well. If the system was disconnected because of 'fear of failure', then why does the guy leave his home in the morning? By that reasoning he should stay indoor for 'fear of being hit by a bus'.

I agree on the Merc oiler is pretty good, since they went to the 2 piece gear in early 90's. Most oiling and gear failures are due to other factors, most gear failures shortly follow previous overheating problems.
