I recently bought a 1975 Cobalt 18' Tri-hull. It has the Mercruiser 233 (Ford Windsor 351). I had to have my Cut-off Switch adjusted to switch in and out of gear.

I'm looking to replace the switch myself, but I have called 10 different places that Mercury recommended and none of them have the part.

Where do you guys go when you're looking for a discontinued part?

HELP!!!!

the boat yard, i.e. someone else's boat :D

seriously, check around at service shops, will probably be able to pick up a used one for nothing off a scrap unit instead of looking to buy new over the counter. Are you sure it's just the cutout switch, and not the lower shift cable causing the problem?

Re: Discontinued Parts

Your switch may have been replaced by a 'switch plate kit' and be available that way. Also try an electrical supply house, looking at 'mini switches'
or 'micro switches'.Omron is a company that manufactures several.

DHP

Re: Discontinued Parts

The part number is 39670A28.
It has been replaced by part #864363A 1.
I read the service bulletin and it says that you have to put it at a different location (it doesn't say where). You also have to update the trim pump that includes the reverse lock valve in the pump.
After the mechanic adjusted the switch it is working fine. I just thought I would put on a new one if I could find it. It shifts in and out of forward/reverse fine. Maybe I should leave well enough alone.
Thanks for your replies.
