93 4.0 Alpha. Under 3/4 load and trimmed the drive disengages. Go back to neutral and re-power and works fine passing through 3/4 load quickly. No other gearing problems. What can it be? At low trim no problems. I am thinking its cavitation but does not act like it.
Also, when under full nighttime ride at slow speed, meaning all lights and stereo are on. The main fuse blows and I have to re-set and start again.

Is the rubber hub in your prop spun? If you have another prop try and see if it does the same thing.

on the main circut there are 2 things the breaker is going bad or something in the circut is failing and drawing to much current and the breaker is protecting from and overload like it should

many meters can measure dc current draw which is the only way you will be able to tell if a part is drawing to much current.

tommays

After checking for the "spun prop" issue mentioned above, then get the shift cable adjusted. It may not be pulling the clutch dogs together far enough (for some reason) and they are popping free. 2nd the clutch dogs might be a bit wore for some reason (rebuild the drive unit). But that's about it for solutions to this problem, not much can really go wrong in there.

Thanks for the prop idea. I need to change it anyway.I will give it a try. the boat only has 150 hours on it, so I am hoping its a cable adjustment issue. I would hate to have to rebuild it at this low hours.
The corcuit has me somewhat concerned because it could be 100 different issues. I will replace the circuit and pray that's all it is.
thanks again..

Like Tommays says if you have a dc ammeter you would definitely know if it is overloaded and the C/B is doing its job by tripping, or it is just weak and needs to be replaced. If I remember correctly they are not that expensive $10 or so. Also what you could do is turn off or isolate one thing at a time to see which component is causing the tripping.
