Hi, I was wondering your thoughts on lubricating the distributor. Not the lower shaft and gear, but the centrifugal advance weights and springs. I have been having alot of squeaking from mine since cleaning it up. Prior to this, there was a bit of oil in there and it was heating up and condensing on my points thus making me paddle to shore....again! Would a high temp grease be ok in there? Engine is a merc 3.0-1987 model. Thanks.

Re: Distibutor Lubrication

Any grease or lub is going to get evenly distributed around the inside of the distributor since itt is turning at 1/2 crankshaft speed and there is no way to prevent it. I find it hard to believe you were hearing advance weights squeaking over the engine noise. They are not constantly in motion -- once the engine is at a given rpm the advance weights stay in that position.
