Hey!

I'd like to replace the distributor cap and rotor this weekend on my 1994 Mercruiser 7.4. Can I pick up an appropriate part from AutoZone, or does this have to be a marine specific application?

since the distributor is designed and built by Mercruiser and there is no cross-over for automotive, you need to get a marine unit. not to mention the different materials to deal with corrosion, etc.

NAPA caries Sierra parts.

Merc usually provides specific iGN systems for their MerCruisers, even though the block is a Chevy. The good news is that there are lots of different sources for marine distributor caps and rotors. Sierra, GLM, and a couple of others come to mind. Also caps and rotors are not expensive, like the Mercury outboard ones.....

Agreed. Marine distributor caps, rotors etc. are readily available and not expensive at all. You can probably get what you need here on iboats.

I'm not an expert, but the cap on my 4.3 has a small angle fitting on the side that acts as a vent. I think it helps to keep moisture from accumulating inside the cap.
