Distributor Cap Help

Hi,

I have a Merc 800 with a damaged Dizzy Cap, part no 393-3726.

I can't find a replacement anywhere?

Does anyone have one?

Is it possible to convert a cap-less old distributor run 1972 merc 800 (3052171) into a CDI run engine?

the engine's good, the cap's bust, which way to go do you think?

The cap is still available from limited places, but expensive ( $170) Try Eastcoastmarineservice. The conversion is POSSIBLE, but unless you are a Merc GURU not a chance, and even then VERY DIFFICULT and somewhat klugy. Bite the bullet and just buy the cap. How did the cap get damaged? You would hate to buy the new cap only to have bad bearings eat it up.

the enigne was given to me, i was told it was running last time they used it, looks like someone pulled it off for a look and chipped it big time! or dropped it?

it runs as is, but very erratically....

will try that parts store.. thanks man!

East Coast Marine don't have one

Anybody else have a Dizzy cap 393-3726 in good condition out there?

Best bet is to keep an eye on ebay for the cap and craigslist for junker motors.

If you can't find the cap, buy a whole motor for cheap and use it as a parts motor.

I have a 1971 Merc 800 and ended up buying two parts motors for $200. One was complete with power trim. I now am my own parts store

Let us know if neither one of theses places work out for you, I have a few other places that i know of that may still have one for you, ending with the A10 number like the one from ebay.
