84 3.8 liter omc. What the thoughts on replacing the points in my distributor with the electronic conversion kit.

Good move, you won't regret it. I would get the Pertronix II, though. It won't burn out if you accidentally leave the key on. I would also save your points and condenser, in a baggie or plastic pill bottle, in the glove box.

Tks Boomyal, think that s my plan. I assume I have counter weights for timing advance, havent been down that deep in dist. Do they still play a role with ignitor 2 installed, do they just advance the mounting plate that ignitor is mounted on?

All of those remain un-altered. They function as usual.
