Distributor problems

I have a 1993 OMC 5.8 EFI Cobra. On the distributor, the clamp piece broke off the base so I can't clamp down the cap. I can't find the replacement base pn#3853610. Is there a base that will take the place of the original? Will an automotive base with the clips replace the base? I haven't worked on boats since 18 years ago so I may need a little help.

It would not work for an EFI. I found one on ebay but he wants $175.00 because it is rare but I will not pay that much. I'm just wondering if I can use a base with clips instead of that screw clamp. Any opinions?

Looks like OMC and Volvo both used this same kind of distributor for few years but the parts are all NLA. I'd search on NLA marine, ebay, Sea Way marine for that part you may be able to find it but may take some searching.

It's the base adapter, OMC and Volvo part numbers the same, #3853610

ps
look at this, is this what you are looking for? I am wondering if its actually a Ford part...
Look down at similar sponsored items, it looks like Standard Motor Parts (maker of aftermarket and OE igntion parts) is a source for this part. One of these may work. It appears to be a plasctic adapter that they came up with when the design of the distributor cap changed.

Standard Motor Parts FD-166, I think is what you are looking for.
