While checking things out during my Carb swap adventure, I pulled the electronic ignition out of my otherwise stock distributor to check the weights. They are ok and slide easily, but the springs are looking rough and one is more/less sprung. This is a Prestolite clip-cap distributor from a Merc. 888. Can I get these springs at a parts store? How can I determine what to get?

Re: Distributor Springs

ask around the speed shops or engine machine shops. They should be able to direct you to a distributor guru. each of those springs have a certain value and I doubt that napa would be able to help. you should be able to find an advance curve in your seloc manual. you should have that at hand and the distrib #'s when you get it worked on. Unfortunately, I think old vacume/centrifugal distributor mechanics might be going the way of dial telephone repair shops.
