I'm looking a buying a boat through a charity, when the boat was donated the owner said the something equivalent to the distributor was bad. Looking online I can't find a distributor. Does this part go under a different name? Can I rebuild it? Is this worth it or should I keep looking. It's a 85 HP evinrude model 85393M.

There is no conventional distributor on that 73 model.-----------I would do a compression test first.----------The electronic ignition bits are not really that expensive.

85393 (1973) does not have a distributor. It has CD electronic ignition. Assume there is something wrong with the motor, but not knowing what, are you willing to take a chance?

Not knowing the exact numbers to expect, I would think that would be acceptable. Do you have any way of checking for spark?

I'm not sure I will have the ability to check spark or compression. The boat looks exceptional but then again it was donated to a charity...

Looks like a nice swift little boat. Hey, any boat / motor you buy not running is going to be taking a chance. Might as well be this one, if it is what you want.

I'm going to go look at it tomorrow, if it is the cdi's are those fairly easy to test and replace?
