distrubtor trouble

I need some help please. I have a pohaser 230 cc with a 5.0 cobra. I'm trying to up grade the distribtor from old style points to electronics went to the local parts store purchased one with the goods but it has 3 wires and now I 'm not getting no fire from the coil to the distribtor ,checked the coil its good,also have fire going to the coil. Checked the wiring diagram everthing hooked up right. Please Ihope somebody can help me. Thanks

Why are you looking at an auto parts store for ignition conversion parts. Marine engines DO NOT use automotive distributors.
Next question, is your 5.0L engine a Ford or Chevy, does the engine have a year........... may not be the same as the boat. Model numbers would be better.

If you replaced the entire dizzy with an automotive one, not such a good idea, unless you have an open bilge.
Would be much easier to swap out the points for an electronic pickup.
