Dividing up waypoints on a Garmin GPSMAP 541?

After a few years using a Lowrance LCX-25C as the GPS unit on my boat, I recently picked up a Garmin GPSMAP 541 which I'm using as a semi-portable on top of my console.

I took all the waypoints from my laptop, put them on an SD card and transferred them to the GPSMAP 541. I have 'way too many waypoints! Some areas are so thick that they all pile up on top of each other. So what I'd like to do is divide up the waypoints into various categories -- i.e. a tier 1 of waypoints I always want to see, and then a couple of other tiers I would only load when on certain types of outings.

I'm just not sure how to do this on the Garmin. On the Lowrance, I could put several different files of waypoints on an SD card, and pick and choose which I wanted to load at any given time. From working with the Garmin a little, it seems as though it's not set up to offer a choice of which file of waypoints you want to load. Any given SD card seems as though it just consists of a single file.

As a workaround, I suppose I could burn several different SD cards, each with a different collection of waypoints, and then choose whichever one I want to put in the unit for a given outing. But this seems like a kludge. Is there any way with a Garmin of this type to segment the waypoints into different files on a single SD card so that I don't have to load them all at once?
