Any suggestions or recomendations on diving ladders, Im a big guy and need a substantial ladder and have been looking at Garelick and armstrong dive ladders. Are they pretty simple to install?

Well what type of boat do you plane to install these on? A ladder for a pontoon boat is different for a v hull powerboat.

Re: Diving Ladders

I have seen one manufacturer of dive ladders that makes a heavy-duty unit made out of oval aluminum tubing. If I were to install a dive ladder I would have a shop make a simple tree type ladder that will hold a min 300lbs on each branch/step. Probably cost less than a quality ladder would, too.

Suggestions: whatever length ladder you think you need, its not enough…get more steps. Plan on boarding the ladder with the waterline at your neck. A bottom rung at your knees is too high.

Also, I secure a few lines and hang them overboard. Each one has a large brass/bronze clip on the end…they hang to about 3-ft underwater. First thing I do when I come up is to clip a line to a bronze ring on my w-belt…then pop the belt buckle. Then I clip a second line to my BC, inflate and roll out of it. Now I can board the boat without all that stuff hanging off my body. I just pull the lines up to load the equipment.

18rabbit, Thanks for the brass ring suggestion. I was just using a rope and tying off the BC to it and I would just hand my weights up over the transom but I like your way better, saves anything from getting hit by the weights.
