DIY Bravo Flush Kit

My boat has a 1995 Mercruiser 502 block with the standard plastic housing/rubber impeller water pump (P/N 46-807151). Drive is a Bravo XR with short shaft and ONLY low water pickup, and it cannot draw enough water on the (ridiculously expensive btw) muffs to run the water system - roasted a couple impellers to learn this.

I want to install a direct flush kit straight into the water pump input. Seems like premade kits for this are going for $100+ and I know this can be done through the Home Depot for a lot cheaper. I believe I will need a 1" brass T fitting with a ball valve for the leg of the T, plus a small length of garden hose and a brass plug to cap the hose just in case.

Anyone else done this? What parts did you use? Any hidden things or tips I should be aware of?

Re: DIY Bravo Flush Kit

My Sea Ray the previous owner had the Merc. kit installed which I use for "pre-filling" before starting on the muffs as normal.

Are you talking about wanting to plumb in for the same pre-fill tactic or are you talking about running the engine with a supplemental hose attached here along with the normal hose on the muffs?
