DIY lower unit oil fill pressure tester - $5

So was scrounging around to make a 3/8-16 threaded tool to pressure test the merc lower units.. while browsing around autozone I came across a duralast brass battery terminal bolt - Part Number: [FONT=&quot]DL01053[/FONT][FONT=&quot] [/FONT]

It has rhe 3/8 thread. I drilled it thru, cut it in half and stripped a tire valve and bought an oring to match. I now have 2 for $5.. match the 2nd hole drill bit to the tire valve inner about 1/4 for a good snug fit and glue in place

I just use my mityvac 8500. Comes with all the adapters and it is both a pressure gauge and a vacuum gauge with a pump all in one. Couple that with tge pile of lube adapters you get with various lube pumps and you can test anything

Just applying pressure without a gauge doesnt tell you if your holding pressure

thanks, yes I use a foot bicycle pump with gauge - wd def get the whole kit i agree, but for a quick fix when theres no time this will also work :)
