I would like to put some side bunks on my trailer to help align the boat in the current of the river. I would like to make some out of 4x6 and cover with marine carpet. as I know I can make'm cheaper than buying them. they will be about 4 ft long each.

Does anyone have a good set of plans. Anything will help.

Really just stuck on how to attach them to the frame of the trailer. I was thinking big U-bolts through a board. any suggestions?

Best thing is to have some brackets custom welded. Take a look at some trailers in your area or online to get a good idea. I like the way mine are done. I can take some pictures for you.

that sounds like a good idea. do you think someone can weld it with the boat already on the trailer. i t would be a good fit then! and easier for me.

That wouldn't be a problem. Just have to put something between the boat and the trailer to protect it from splatter. Another way is to have the brackets welded and then have the brackets made so that they can attach with u-bolts to the trailer.

This is almost exactly what mine has:

The piece that mounts on the trailer is similar to a hitch receiver and the bracket slides into it. There is a nut welded to the top of the receiver with a bolt going through it to allow you to adjust the distance away from the boat.

The metal that goes up to the bunk is a "C" channel.
