I now own a 1998 SeaRay 185 that has an in-dash depth finder installed. I just purchased a Hummingbird 798ci SI and before I install it I need to know if the transducers will interact with each other causing a problem if they are on at the same time.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It depends on whether they run on the same frequency, and how well false return rejection works on the unit in question.

No harm will be done, and you can easily tell if they interfere by watching for returns on one as you turn the other on and off.

When I get serious about looking for fish echos in cover with the past era Interphase dual beam thingie that came with my boat, I shut everything else in the boat off.

No. They are generally lonesome soles that hangout on top of the dash all alone. If you put two together they feel crowded and require your full attention.
