After a long summer or restoring two boats and surfing the boating forums I have a question to ask.
It seems as if some people equate price with quality or where a part come from with quality.

I have bought a lot of parts ( bilge pumps , roap, houses and other parts) from walmart and noticed they are the same others sell for more.
The next item I am about to get is a fixed mounted vhf radioo.
As I asked questions about it as gave the sale price 90.00 after taxes the local west maring is closing so they dropped prices I was told would I trust my life to a cheap radio.
After a bit of searching I noticed that west marine just put their lable on uniden radio's and sell them cheaper
So price has nothing to do with quality....

Very true. Plaster a Marine in the discription and the price jumps 2 to 3 times for the same piece. I would only look for marine parts when it comes to engine related components.

Sometimes the word Marine matters. Definitely not always, but be especially careful with engine parts, due to gasoline vapor explosiveness issues Also, with internal engine parts, Marine doesn't matter necessarily, but there are "will-fit" manufacturers that make parts of lesser quality than OEM. There are also some specialty manufacturers that exceed OEM quality, so like the tasha dude said, homework.

I agree about marine engine parts. With the internet we can all be value shoppers.
