Do I belong here?

I'm not sure if I belong in the part of the forum. I purchased a 1998 Starcraft 1810 GT with 110 hours on it a few months ago. I put it in the shop to do a survey. (I know, should have done that first) but with such low hours and not terribly old I thought what the heck. Turns out after the survey the motor is knocking on cyl. 5, it has a bad gimble bearing, tach is bad, fuel tank is leaking and so on and so forth. So, it looks like I'll be doing a restoration of sorts to this boat. I was wondering if there are model specific repair manuals like Chilton has for cars. I know they make them for the motor and outdrive, but have not seen a repair manual or even a website that has parts for specific brands of boats. Anyone who could help me locate these things would be greatly appreciated. Or if this post is in the wrong spot, please forgive the noob.

Thanks,

Evan

Welcome to iboats :)

We just wing it in here...

but I can sell you a manual for your boat for $75.00. All I need is some pictures of your boat...lol.

Okay, I've had my jollies with you. There isn't really any "manuals" per say in regards to fixing boats but there are different techniques used pending on what you are trying to do, especially with fiberglassing. It's just a matter of knowing what you're trying to fix/achieve and with what you're going to use. A good thing to do is utilize the search feature within the forums ("oops" has a great thread), check out your library (Runnabout Renovations is an alright book for starters) and/or search youtube.

Luckily, you have a lot of company with owning a Starcraft since every other thread seems to consists of one and the guys are really resourceful. With respect with issues with your motor, I'd try posting in the appropriate motor section.

Thanks for the feedback and advice. I do need to take some pictures of this thing, don't I. At least to have some before pics.

Real Men don't bother with instructions....well, not really true. When it comes to the hull and attachments other then the motor you could say there are only a few varieties and a manual wouldn't really have much in it for a specific model.

Like BigRed said I have hear a lot of folks refer to the runabout restoration book and I intend to find a copy for myself. Fortunately most boat systems are fairly straight forward and the advice you get on this site is top noch to steer you in the correct direction.

Runnabout Renovations is a good introduction book for someone who likes to sit down and read in a quite corner but it hops and skips over the basics. IMO, read a couple of five star threads here and save yourself $20. Heck, if I were oops, I'd be charging admission to his thread.

Are there any issues with the boat hull?
