Been doing some reading on old posts re the differences between cross-flow and looper technology. Very interesting.

I've got a '86 Evinrude 140 that after my reading I'm assuming is a "Looper". Can anyone confirm that for me?

Thanks.

Re: Do I have a "Looper"?

Hey Brew, I just searched and found a reply to one of my old posts. This explains it well.

Luna Sea..... I double checked and found that the model number you list (EL120TLCO) is indeed a 1985 120hp Loop Charged Evinrude engine. The 1985 OMC manual states that the measurements that I gave you previously (20" shaft=21-15/16") - (25" shaft=21-15/16") are correct.

The loop charged engine can be identified by the large carburetor cover that completely covers the four (4) plastic like carburetors. The crossflow engine has a carburetor cover that simply attaches to the front of the carburetors.

Anyone know how to cut and paste old subjects into current replies?

Thanks Luna Sea.

I definitely have the large box like carb cover that goes over the 4 plastic carbs. I guess I have a looper.

Cheers.

Are you sure you have 4 carbs? I didn't think OMC made a 140 Looper that far back.

Re: Do I have a "Looper"?

'85 was the 1st year for the 140 (and 120) loop charged motor ... I have one bought new and it still runs great.
