This is only the second year I have owned my boat so I'm kinda new to the boat ownership thing. Today I wanted to fire up the motor and confirm it starts before launching. So off to wal-mart for the water muffs. No concerns with starting it fired right up, but I dont know where water should come from other than the pee hole. Please look at the pic., there is water coming out on port at the the left silver nut on the bottom flange thingy and water coming out a port in front of the silver nut on the right on the bottom flange thingy and of course the pee hole is flowing good. My guess is this is good.

But what about the section at the top horizontal rib thingy? Not sure what they call this area. Is this normal? For some reason I thought the water only came out the pee hole? Hopefully I'm wrong and all is ok. If a video is needed I can try to provide.

I take it that it's a 80's - 90's model 15-25hp right? If it is, thats pretty normal. A fresh water pump kit would seal that water coming from around the shift shaft but everything else is normal. If your running you should'nt see a steady hard flow from the pee hole under the coweling, if you do you need to replace the t-stat. The motor will do just fine the way it is though. If your questionable about it, run it awhile than touch the powerhead, if you can't leave your hand on it, it's too hot. Luke warm, it's good.

Yes your correct it is a 96 - 25hp. Like I stated the impeller was recently changed. Is this something they should have seen or part of the impeller change?

Do not put too much water pressure in your hose to the muffs.

The water pump housing is sealed to the base with a large o-ring...to be honest, you have about a 60% chance of getting that thing to seal good enough to not let any water out. The water tube going to the power head is kinda held loosly with a rubber grommet, so thats the reason for not letting too much water pressure get to it, the water will just blow out. The safest way to test it is to run it is in a large trash can or something and let it create it's own water pressure. You should be good to go with that motor.....Awesome outboard by the way, keep it tuned and it will last forever.
