let me start by stating this is my 2nd boat....1st was 20 yrs ago.just inherited a 19 ft. manatee vs cuddy cabin w/90 hp evinrude, told it was rebuilt 40 hrs ago, boat was in water for last two years at dock, used maybe 5 times.question is.......if all is running correcly is this enough hp for this boat, can not get up on plane at full throttle, motor runs very smooth at idle and at full throtle. used gps and calculated speed at approx. 12 mph at full throttle.any help would be great seems like this could be a fun boat but do not want to hurt motor if underpowered....need time if i need larger (budget)

I'm not familiar with your boat, but a 90 seems small. That being said, it should still run better than 12mph. What RPM is the engine turning?

Welcome!!

First of all -- you can never have too much horsepower.

Seriously, I would suggest a compression test to start with. If all is well there do a spark check and then clean the carbs, replace the water pump (kit). Look at the thermostats, water deflectors and head gaskets.

A factory service manual will be worth its weight in gold.

Good luck and let us know how you make out!

90hp seems small for that much boat. MAke sure the boat hasn't got water in the floatation tanks. They're supposed to be sealed but after a few years many of them leak and weigh down the boat.

not sure how to check the hull for water ,also i took her out today and she only moved as if i had a big trolling moter, ran for about 1 hour ,took off cowling and while idleing i noticed a small white puff from side of powerhead about every 5-7 seconds.not sure what it was ,placed hand in location and didn't smell gas.........was heading back in and all of a sudden she was back to the way it was the other day (see 1st post)and ran like that for 1 hour.

Have you checked the hull bottom for growth/barnacles etc? That alone is enough to kill your speed. ;)
That boat is underpowered with a 90HP, but it should run better than 12MPH.
