I have a 1996 Sylvan V196 with a Mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen + (serial number on engine is 0F821387.) I de-winterized it over the weekend and came across the only part that I decided to question in replacing. I have the "what I belive is the thermostat housing " on top with the 4 hoses that seemingly disappear under the blck. 2 of the hoses I know go to the water pump. My question is... "does it have a thermostat?" When I put the serial number into Mercury Marine parts catalog for a part number... "I see nothing" that shows a thermostat. Which brings me to the question...."should I leave the housing alone?" I started the boat just fine... let it run on the "muffs" for about 15 minutes... and it never moved off of 125 degrees. Any advice would be helpful! I am also trying to "hunt" down just the impellar and the gasket for a drive unit for the following serail number (0F709008). I keep getting told that I have to buy the ENTIRE kit that runs about $100.00.
