Do I have or do I not have a thermostat?

I have a 1996 Sylvan V196 with a Mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen + (serial number on engine is 0F821387.) I de-winterized it over the weekend and came across the only part that I decided to question in replacing. I have the "what I belive is the thermostat housing " on top with the 4 hoses that seemingly disappear under the blck. 2 of the hoses I know go to the water pump. My question is... "does it have a thermostat?" When I put the serial number into Mercury Marine parts catalog for a part number... "I see nothing" that shows a thermostat. Which brings me to the question...."should I leave the housing alone?" I started the boat just fine... let it run on the "muffs" for about 15 minutes... and it never moved off of 125 degrees. Any advice would be helpful! I am also trying to "hunt" down just the impellar and the gasket for a drive unit for the following serail number (0F709008). I keep getting told that I have to buy the ENTIRE kit that runs about $100.00.

Ayuh,... There is in fact a T-stat in that housing,...
The motor will run Cold, yet have Hot Spots without it...
And,...
I've never seen an impeller kit for $100. for an Alpha 1, Gen.II...

Your thermostat is inside the thermostat housing. (item #5 in drawing) it's held in by the sleeve (#6) that usually gets stuck in the housing from rust.

The impeller kit is not shown in the Merc OEM parts catalog, only the full kit. It included, the seal carrier under the pump and that big SS housing.
If you want to find that kit on the Merc site, just type in the part number 43026Q06 leave off the 47-, Merc quit using the class numbers.
These pictures should show the differences.
