hey everyone,
i have a 1994 johnson 6hp kicker,
serial:b08851380
model : j6sleia
the issue is that tonight i went in to the garage where the boat is stored and there was 2 small pools of black oil on the ground under the kicker. I checked the kicker and there is a dribble coming from the lower casing on the lower leg.
i run a the pre mix between 40\50 to 1. it does smoke alot when its running.
ill try to add some pictuers to help.
I think personaly that its just unburnt oil but i thought id ask all you !!
thanks in advance

I wouldn't think that the motor should be leaking no mater what the mixture ratio is especially just sitting there not running. You may have a bad seal/gasket or something along that line. If it is coming from the prop/exhaust this could be a common thing but by the way you mentioned it is not. If you have an adjustment for the fuel oil ratio on the carb or carbs then I would say maybe it's access oil because there may be some kind of adjustment off. Out of curiosity if it is still dripping undo the fuel line from the tank and see if it stops or take and loosen up the air vent nob on the fuel tank if it is not loose there might be some pressure built up in the the tank causing this. There are some experienced people here lets get there input.

Your motor is a 1991. The EI in the model # says so.

It probably is unburned oil from the exhaust, but check the gear oil just to be on the safe side.

The oil that you put in the gas goes through the engine, then out the exhaust. There, it mixes with carbon particles and turns black. And then out to scare people.

:D :D That tickled me, I needed that. I had my motor dripping black out of the prop when I had it running for the first time on muffs it scared me because I was new to motors then. I found out it was common like I said before for it to come out the exhaust. If you ever had your motor running in a barrel (55 gallon) it would let the oil or carbon come up to the top of the water same difference.
